Timothy McVeigh is one of a rare breed: a domestic, home-born American terrorist. McVeigh was a former US Army veteran, who had served during the first Gulf War and had been decorated for his services. After his military career, however, he became violently disillusioned with the American government and was further outraged by the way in which the Waco siege had been handled in 1993. Deciding to make a stand against the government, he hired a truck and parked it outside the Alfred P. Muttah Federal building in Oklahoma City. It was packed with a 7,000 lb explosive device, a mixture of ammonium nitrate fertiliser and fuel oil. This was detonated on 19 April 1995, shattering the building and killing 168 people. McVeigh faced federal charges for the murder of eight of their employees; the other deaths came under the jurisdiction of the state of Oklahoma. McVeigh’s cohort, Michael Fortier, confessed to his involvement and was the prosecution’s star witness; he was sentenced to just 12 years in prison. McVeigh became the first person in over 38 years to be executed to the US federal government when he was given a lethal injection in the federal prison at Terre Haute, Indiana, on 11 June 2001.

Tim McVeigh was the first person to get me interested in the Death Penalty

It was the Murrah building not the Muttah building. And why no mention of Terry Nichols? Sorry Ok native right here.
